- Monitors air levels within your engine
- Plays a vital role in your electronic fuel injection system
- Replacement can be complex
The Mass Air Flow Sensor on your vehicle is an important component of the electronic fuel injection system. The Mass Air Flow Sensor sits between the engine's air filter and intake manifold and measures the amount of air that enters the engine through the engine air filter. Your Nissan's onboard computer takes in the information that the Mass Air Flow Sensor gathers and determines how much fuel is required to keep the right ratio of air to fuel.
If your vehicle's Mass Air Flow Sensor is damaged or worn out, it may cause your engine to run lean, meaning the air-to-fuel ratio either has too much air or not enough fuel. If the engine in your Nissan starts running lean, you may notice decreased performance, backfires when decelerating, or your Nissan won't start.
Since engine performance can be affected by an old Mass Air Flow Sensor, it can trigger the check engine light on your Nissan. Use an OBD-II scanner to check the codes in your Nissan's computer to see if the scanner returns a Mass Air Flow Sensor error code. Don't own a scanner? Visit your nearest Nissan service center.
Replacing a faulty Mass Air Flow Sensor is pretty complex and best left to a professional. If you get a professional inspection for air flow sensor issues, your technician might be able to solve them with a sensor cleaning instead of a replacement. They'll use a specialized mass air flow sensor cleaner to get rid of grim, debris, or dirt that has collected on the sensor.
When it's time to replace your old Mass Air Flow Sensor, make sure the new Mass Air Flow Sensor is the right fit with genuine Nissan Parts. This Mass Air Flow Sensor 22680EZ40A fits your Nissan Titan. See the What This Fits tab for more details.
